Function and Task
The Department of Geomagnetism is a research unit of the Institute of Geophysics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. It has the following main tasks:
+ Carrying out the observations and fundamental investigations on
Geomagnetism and Ionosphere. Management of the national magnetic – ionospheric observatories and repetition station network;
+ Study of the characteristics of distribution and time variations on the territory of Vietnam in order to serve the demands of economy, science, technology and national defense;
+ Study of the ionosphere in order to serve the radio propagation;
+ Application of the geophysical methods (magnetic, magneto-telluric sounding , GPS technology …) in the prospect and sounding of the deep geological structure, tectonic, ionosphere and mineral resources;
+ Study of the magnetic environnement, the impacts of the magnetic storms on the technological systems and the human lifes;
+ Paleomagnetic study for tectonic interpretation; study of the magnetic susceptibility on the marine sedimentary rocks for determining the stratigraphic boundaries, chronocorrelations; study of the paleoclimatic changes periods and sedimentary accumulations;
+ Postgraduate training for Ph. D in the fields of Geomagnetism - Ionosphere.
